Cannes Film Festival 2010


The 63rd edition of the Cannes Film Festival was held from May 12 till May 23 2010. As 19 films competed for the Palme d'Or prize, the Thai film "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" won after tough competition. Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood" was screened at the opening of the festival and the French/Australian film "The Tree" was screened for the closing. American director Tim Burton was the jury president for the international competiion along with other jury members such as Kate Beckinsale.

Many dead in clashes in Thailand


At least 20 people died in clashes between Thai troops and opposition supporters in Bangkok and more than 800 were hurt. Thai troops fired tear gas and rubber bullets while protesters launched petrol bombs in the deadliest violence in 18 years.

Polish president dead in plane crash!



President Lech Kaczynski died in a plane crash in Russia.Polish and Russian officials announced that no survivors were found after the plane hit trees as it approached Smolensk aiport. The Polish army chief was among more than the 80 passengers on the plane.
Poland held a two minute tribute to their president and other 95 offcials wh odied in the crash. Thousands of Poles are attending church services leaving flowers in honour of their president.
